Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
About Me
Hannah Wilkinson
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist
I began working in the City of London in Finance and Media markets. Very quickly I came to realise that the aspects of the work I found most interesting were in understanding peoples’ motivations, identifying areas of difficulty and working through personality stumbling blocks.
In 2009 I read for a Masters in the Psychodynamics of Human Development at Birkbeck College and then began to re-train within the mental health sector. I have worked across many settings gaining experience in placements at Mind, Highgate Mental Health, St. Pancras Psychotherapy Services. I have since worked as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist first in the NHS and for the last five years with the Camden Psychotherapy Unit.
I enjoy working in my local community whilst keeping connected to the wider psychoanalytic membership.
How I work
In the London clinic and in private practice in St. Albans, I work with adults who are suffering with their mental health, who want to find deeper understanding and fulfilment and who want to make positive changes in their lives.
I have slowly built a private practice in St. Albans, seeing psychotherapy patients 1, 2 or 3 times a week, and analytic patients more intensively 4 times a week. Sessions are 50 minutes long and the work can be shorter term, although typically the work can last at least a year and often much longer. There is always more going on in our minds than we first realise.
About My Approach
You may know what brings you here today, you may have a feeling that there is something worth exploring. Experiences of emotional distress in relationships or in the way you relate to the world might feel debilitating and you want to talk to someone about it.
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy offers a space to think with a trained clinician about what is going on in your mind, some of which you will not know. For many patients, the relationship with a therapist can become one of the most meaningful, reliable and enduring connections in your life.
Patients come for help when they are emotionally fragile and if that describes you, you will need careful and ethical holding by a compassionate, kind and trained clinician.
